Just signed up with SmarterSelect and need to get rolling? Start here to see the basics and get yourself on the fast track to taking your program live.
Step 1: Setup Your Admins
If you plan to have anyone else at your organization assist in managing and/or creating programs, you can set them up with a Provider User account.
- While logged into your admin account, click on People.
- Click the Create User button.
- Check the box for Provider User. If you wish for this person to also serve as an evaluator, also check the box for Evaluator.
- Enter the email address, first name, and last name for this person and click Create.
- This new user will receive an email to set up their account.
Step 2: Create Your Program
To create your new program and form, go to the Programs menu and select Create New Program.
Note: This quick-start guide demonstrates the most basic program. If you plan to use advanced features such as Matching, Autoscore, Calculation, or App Rules, see our Best Practices.
The Program Page is where you will create the program landing page and update and/or save your program's settings.

Program Deadline: The date and time applicants will no longer be able to start or edit an application.
Recommender Deadline: The date and time request recipients will no longer be able to respond to requests for information or recommendation.
Evaluator Deadline: The date and time evaluators will no longer be able to add or edit scores and/or comments.
Step 3: Build Form
Click Save and Create Application or Form in the left navigation menu; you will be taken directly to create your first page.
- Add a title for this page and click Save. You will be taken to create a new section.
- Add a title for the new section and click Save. You will be taken to create a new question.
- Type into the Question Text box the question to ask.
- Select the question type you wish to use. Click here to learn more about question types.
You may add as few or as many Pages, Sections, and Questions to your form.
To edit your form, find and click on the page, section, or question you want to edit in the Application Tree on the right.
To re-order your form, click the Change Order button. Drag and drop pages, sections, and/or questions to change their location within the form.
Step 4: Test and Proof
When you have completed your form, but before you go live, it is a strong recommendation and best practice to test your program. You want to be sure that everything is set up correctly and the form is clear to the applicants.
To do this, go to the Program Page. At the top of the page is the Application Link.
Chrome and Firefox Users
With your mouse, right-click on the Application Link and select Open in Incognito Window (Chrome), or Open in a Private Window (Firefox).
Internet Explorer Users
If you're using Internet Explorer (we strongly advise against using Internet Explorer as it has issues with incompatibility with many websites), you'll need to copy the Application Link and then log out of your admin account.
Next, paste the copied link into the browser address bar.
Now, in any browser, you can click Apply and begin testing the program. Be sure to create a new user account using an email address that is different from that of the one used for your admin account.
Step 5: Go Live!
Now that your program is built and tested, you're ready to start accepting applications. Simply take the Application Link and provide it to your webmaster, add it to an email campaign, or any other way you plan to distribute the link.
There is no need to do anything other than publish the link to go live. As long as your program is set to Active on the Program Page, your program will be "on".
